Bacterial sinusitis is a sinus infection that is caused by bacterial overgrowth in the sinuses. The infection itself usually begins after other conditions such as colds cause inflammation and swelling in the sinus cavities. This sets the stage for the bacterial infection as the inflammation and swelling can interfere with the body’s own sinus cleaning actions.
